Cutting Class Descriptions

Whether you are new to the sport or a seasoned professional, this page will introduce you to what our classes mean and if they are right for you and your horse before you register. Registration fees are next to each class. 

In order to be eligible for year end awards, you must be a member (see our membership page) and show in the same class at least 3 times during the season. 

Intermediate - Advanced Classes

Open ($180)

This class will have fresh cattle and is open to any horse with any rider regardless of either's earnings.

 

This is a one-handed class

Non-Pro ($180)

Open to Non-Professional riders (meaning you do not engage in an equine activity for compensation) on an owned horse with any level of earnings.

This is a one-handed class.

Two Handed Open ($145)

Horse must be ridden in a snaffle bit, hackamore, or bosal. Open to any horse with any rider regardless of earnings.

This is a two-handed class.

Advanced Beginner - Intermediate Classes

$5,000 ($125)

This class if for horses that have earned less than $5,000 in lifetime earnings.

This is a one-handed class.

Ranch Cutting ($90)

This class is for the horse that is  newer to the sport and the rider is not penalized for picking up or assisting their horse.

This is a one or two-handed class. 

$1,000 Novice Rider ($85)

This class is intended for the novice rider that has less than $1,000 in lifetime earnings. 

This is a one-handed class.

Beginner Classes

Two-Handed Novice ($80)

For those newer to cutting, this class allows the rider to ride two-handed with no penalty for reining their horse. It is intended for the novice horse and novice rider combination.

 

Coaching is available during this class, or you can bring your own. 

Cutter 101 ($80)

Our flagship class for beginner horses and riders new to the sport. You may only show in this class for the first year you compete. This can be a one or two handed ride. There will be open communication and coaching during this class.

You must be a member of BCCHA and have attended our pre-season clinic to be eligible to ride in this class.

Boxing ($50 Open/$50 Novice/$40 Youth)

The horse and rider must keep the cow at the end of the arena for 90 seconds while they are judged on their ability to control the cow and how well their horse responds.

This is a one or two-handed class but switching is discouraged.
